The snotgreen sea

Talking about that cold Sunday with Dublin Sketchers a few weeks ago. I haven't been out sketching since then, between the flu, the coughing, and then the snow.
That Sunday in Sandycove was part of our #DrawingOnBloomsday project. It was great fun last year, so we're building on that success for Bloomsday 2018! I'm not curating this time, but I'll be sketching. I took a different approach for my first sketch. Knowing that it was going to be a cold day, I decided to limit my outdoors time, and just paint the colours of the sea, the snotgreen sea! And I swear that every colour you see on these pages was there in the sea at Forty Foot on that day!

"— The bard's noserag! A new art colour for our Irish poets: snotgreen. You can almost taste it, can't you?
He mounted to the parapet again and gazed out over Dublin bay, his fair oakpale hair stirring slightly.
— God! he said quietly. Isn't the sea what Algy calls it: a great sweet mother? The snotgreen sea. The scrotumtightening sea."
